Jackson County deputies increasing speed enforcement throughout July

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Drivers in Jackson County can expect increased speed enforcement throughout July as the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office joins a statewide traffic safety campaign.
The sheriff’s office is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to crack down on speeding and other traffic violations.
“Speeding causes unnecessary danger on our roads,” Sgt. Ron Stanton said. “Speed greatly reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around another vehicle, a hazardous object or an unexpected curve. Speeding drivers put themselves, their passengers and other motorists at tremendous risk.”
During the campaign, deputies will focus on enforcing posted speed limits, particularly in areas where speed-related crashes are most common.
“Offenders will be stopped and ticketed — especially where most of our speed-related crashes occur,” Stanton said. “Our goal is to save lives.”
The enforcement campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
