Scott City police remind residents to keep grass clippings off roadways

SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Scott City Police Department is reminding residents to keep grass clippings and other yard debris out of roadways, saying they can create hazardous driving conditions.

Police said grass clippings reduce tire traction and can make roads as slippery as black ice, posing a particular danger to motorcyclists and bicyclists.

Under Scott City Code 255.030, it is illegal to discharge, sweep or blow litter, including weeds and grass clippings, into public roadways.

Police are asking residents to properly dispose of grass clippings to help keep roads safe for all motorists.
