Scott City man dies in three-vehicle crash on Interstate 55

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — A 74-year-old Scott City man died after a three-vehicle crash Friday on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau.
According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, officers responded around 11:57 a.m. to the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 near mile marker 96 for a crash with injuries.
The preliminary investigation found traffic had come to a standstill because of road construction. Police said a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Kenneth Glasser, was traveling southbound while pulling a homemade utility trailer carrying a riding lawn mower when it struck the rear of a stopped 2023 Ford F-150.
The impact pushed the Ford into a stopped 2015 Dodge Ram.
Glasser was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Ford, 59-year-old Mark Owens of Jackson, and the driver of the Dodge, 21-year-old Kelby Newell of Friedheim, were not injured.
The Chrysler and Ford sustained major disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department’s crash reconstruction team is continuing to investigate the crash.
