CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A hot shower and clean clothes may seem like small things but to someone in need it can make a world of a difference. That’s why an event in Cape Girardeau aims to give those facing homelessness or challenges basic necessities and to let them know that their community hasn’t forgotten them.
“Bringing this community event to Cape Girardeau, collaborating with Street Level, Grace United Methodist Church, Cape Warming Center and just a beautiful culture of collaboration and where we are able to support those in need in the community with free showers and free laundry services for a few hours this coming Friday” says Kraemer.
According to Street Level President Kathy Kraemer an event aimed at helping those in need will take place on July 24th, 2026, at the Grace United Methodist Church, from 11:00 am-2:00pm. A free meal, haircuts, showers, and free laundry services will be available. Georgia Rodgers is a Cape Warming Center board member she shares that everyone can get something out of the event.
“The relationship and the relational component of being able to come are vital so we invite the community you know, if you don’t need showers, you don’t need the laundry just come and begin a relationship with someone that you don’t know” says Rodgers.
Made possible through community collaboration, Kraemer shares that anyone wanting to give back and donate services for the event is welcome to do so.
