Richard McGill appointed Sikeston assistant city manager, public works director

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — The City of Sikeston has appointed Richard McGill as its new assistant city manager and public works director.

McGill began his new role Monday.

He has more than 25 years of municipal and educational leadership experience, including seven years as New Madrid’s city administrator. In that role, he managed more than 50 full-time employees and administered a combined $9.5 million operating budget.

McGill also directed a capital improvement program that included construction of a water treatment plant. City officials said his economic development work helped attract about 600 jobs through three major initiatives.

He previously served for more than 14 years as director of adult and community education at the Sikeston Career and Technology Center. He also served as dean of career education at Three Rivers College.

Most recently, McGill worked as principal consultant for Truman Strategies in Sikeston and community and government relations manager for Swift Current Energy.

“Sikeston is home,” McGill said. “My family has been part of this community for decades, and having the opportunity to serve its residents in this role is something I do not take lightly.”

McGill said he looks forward to working with Mayor Greg Turnbow, the Sikeston City Council, City Manager Jonathan Douglass and city staff.
