Woman charged with murder after fatal stabbing in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — A 31-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder after a man was fatally stabbed Tuesday night in Mount Vernon.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews responded to a home at 409 S. 20th St. around 7:30 p.m. for a report of an unconscious man who was bleeding.

First responders found the man with a stab wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers found Quencie Favors of Mount Vernon inside the home and took her into custody without incident, according to police.

Favors was later charged with first-degree murder and detained at the Jefferson County Jail.

Mount Vernon police detectives and the Illinois State Police processed the scene and are continuing the investigation.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.

The charge is an accusation. Favors is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
