Kehoe pledges continued tax-cut efforts after Amendment 5 fails

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe says he will continue pursuing tax cuts after voters rejected Amendment 5.

The proposed constitutional amendment would have required lawmakers to gradually eliminate Missouri’s individual income tax as state revenue increased. It also would have prohibited the state from collecting an income tax in the future.

Kehoe said the measure did not receive the support needed to pass but argued that efforts to reduce taxes are not over.

The governor said he plans to work with the General Assembly on future proposals aimed at cutting taxes and growing Missouri’s economy.
