DEXTER, Mo. (KBSI) — The Stars and Stripes Museum has received a $10,000 grant from First Midwest Bank to help repair the roof of the historic Heritage House.
Museum officials said the Heritage House, believed to have been built in the 1880s, is considered the oldest home in Dexter. The funding will help preserve the structure as plans move forward to eventually relocate it to the museum grounds.
The museum said moving the house would make it more accessible to visitors, allowing staff to offer tours and share its history with students, residents and tourists.
Officials also said the Stoddard County Historical Society will continue to play a key role in preserving the home and its history for future generations.
Museum leaders thanked First Midwest Bank for its support, calling the grant an important step toward protecting one of Dexter’s oldest historic landmarks.
