The Bayou Cajun Smokehouse announces closure, plans transition to event venue

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Bayou Cajun Smokehouse has announced plans to close after four years in business, but several of its popular events and menu items will continue.

The restaurant announced Tuesday that its last official day of business will be Sept. 5. A Labor Day celebration featuring Old Cape Road will follow Sept. 6.

Following the closure, owners said The Bayou building will undergo a major remodel and be converted into an event venue. Additional details about the new venue are expected to be announced later.

Several community events associated with The Bayou will continue, including BayouFest, its Labor Day Party, dinners with the Grinch and Santa and trivia nights.

Some of the restaurant’s menu favorites also will move to its sister restaurant, The Grill. Owners specifically said Dat Gumbo will be among the dishes making the move.

“This decision was not an easy one to make, but ultimately, it is the right decision for us,” the business said.

The Bayou thanked customers for their support over the past four years and said more information about the transition will be released in the future.
