Highway Z bridge closure, county road paving set to begin Aug. 24

GORDONVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Drivers in the Gordonville area should prepare for multiple road projects beginning Aug. 24, including the closure of the Highway Z bridges.
According to an update from the Gordonville Fire Protection District, the Missouri Department of Transportation is expected to begin closing the two bridges on Highway Z the week of Aug. 24.
Cape Girardeau County officials also confirmed paving work on County Road 227 and a section of County Road 226 is scheduled to begin Aug. 24. That project is expected to take approximately four to five days.
MoDOT said designated detour routes using Routes Z, F, A and 25 will be marked with signs. Additional detour information and maps are expected to be included in road closure notices, on the project webpage and on social media.
The County Road 222 intersection will be temporarily widened during construction. MoDOT said the intersection could close for short periods, but the contractor and MoDOT construction crews will coordinate those closures with the county.
The Highway Z project involves replacing two bridges. According to the fire district, the bridges will be completed one at a time because a Village of Gordonville sewer access point is located between them and must remain accessible in case of an emergency.
