Kennett police announce zero-tolerance enforcement as students return to school

KENNETT, Mo., (KBSI) — The Kennett Police Department is reminding drivers to slow down and watch for children as students return to school Aug. 25.

Police said the beginning of the school year will bring increased traffic, pedestrians and school buses throughout the community.

Drivers are reminded to stop for school buses when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, obey posted speed limits in school zones and watch for children crossing streets or getting into and out of vehicles.

Police are also asking drivers to avoid distractions while traveling near schools and bus stops.

The department said officers will have “zero tolerance” for speeding in school zones and violations involving school buses and will actively enforce those laws as students return to class.
