PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Students in the Portageville School District will return to class Aug. 24 with a major change to their school-year schedule.

The district will begin operating on a new four-day school calendar for the 2026-27 school year, according to Superintendent Barry Branscum.

Branscum said district officials anticipate an adjustment period as students, staff and families settle into new routines, including changes for students who ride school buses.

The district said other school systems that have moved to four-day calendars have experienced similar challenges during the transition.

Families are encouraged to check the district’s school calendar and monitor email and classroom communication systems for information specific to each school building.

Open houses and school pictures are also scheduled during the week of Aug. 17.
