Two hospitalized after crash at McCracken County intersection

McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — Two people were taken to a hospital with serious injuries following a crash Sunday evening in McCracken County.

Deputies responded around 5:41 p.m. Aug. 17 to the intersection of Lebanon Church Road and Old U.S. Highway 45, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said 24-year-old Chase Barnes of Kevil was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang east on Lebanon Church Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of a 2011 Lexus SUV traveling south on Old U.S. 45.

The Lexus was driven by 51-year-old Christopher Hopkins of Melber. Deputies said Hopkins was unable to avoid the collision.

Both vehicles left the roadway and sustained significant damage. Barnes was ejected from the Mustang during the crash.

Barnes and Hopkins were taken by ambulance to a local hospital with incapacitating injuries.

The intersection was closed for nearly two hours while crews responded to the crash.

The Lone Oak Fire Department and Mercy EMS assisted at the scene.
