McCracken County High School senior receives grant to study bluegrass music

McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A McCracken County High School senior has received a state grant to study and promote Kentucky’s bluegrass music tradition.
Sam Lynn was selected to receive the Kentucky Arts Council’s 2026-27 Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant, according to McCracken County Public Schools.
Through the program, Lynn will study bluegrass music with musician and educator Scott Napier. He will also compose an original song and perform publicly in Paducah and Owensboro.
After graduating from McCracken County High School, Lynn plans to continue his music education at East Tennessee State University.
The apprenticeship program supports the study and preservation of Kentucky’s traditional arts by connecting developing artists with experienced practitioners.
