CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host its 2026 Saluki 9/11 Stair Climb on Friday, Sept. 11, at Banterra Center.
The event begins at 6 a.m., with participants asked to arrive by 5:45 a.m. Climbers will take on 110 flights of stairs, representing the 110 floors of each World Trade Center building that fell on Sept. 11, 2001.
The event is part of SIU’s recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and is intended as a moment of remembrance, resilience and unity.
Participants who cannot complete the full climb may participate in a 2-mile walk around the Banterra Center concourse, representing the evacuation distance from Ground Zero across the Brooklyn Bridge.
The event is free, but registration is required for emergency contact purposes. T-shirts will be available in limited quantities, and Cold Blooded Coffee and Dave’s Bagels will provide food and refreshments.
