One adult, four juveniles arrested after fight at Carbondale high school sporting event

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — One adult and four juveniles were arrested after police responded to a fight at a Carbondale Community High School District 165 sporting event Friday night.

Carbondale police said officers received reports around 8:40 p.m. Aug. 21 that multiple people were involved in a physical altercation. Officers assigned to the event responded and de-escalated the fight.

Police said officers witnessed 19-year-old Kashaad Johnson of Carbondale and four juveniles, ages 15, 16, 16 and 17, involved in aggravated battery.

Johnson was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery and taken to the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The four juveniles were arrested on charges of aggravated battery and mob action. Three were taken to the Jackson County Jail while awaiting transportation to a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance. The fourth was released to a guardian.

The juveniles’ names were not released in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act.

Carbondale police said the department is continuing to work with Carbondale Community High School District 165 to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
