Cancer Warriors Walk for Hope set for Oct. 3 in Metropolis

METROPOLIS, Ill., (KBSI) — The annual Cancer Warriors Walk for Hope Community Health Resource Fair and Cancer Walk will return to Metropolis in October.
The free, family-friendly event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dorothy Miller Park.
A welcome ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the park’s Hope Lighthouse. Booths, activities and the Cancer Walk will open at 10 a.m.
The event will feature resources from area health care providers and businesses, a 20-foot inflatable colon, bounce houses, games, door prizes and emergency response vehicles.
Organizers will also hold a raffle for several $50 and $100 Visa gift cards. Tickets will cost $1 each or six for $5, with proceeds supporting the event and regional health care programs and services.
Participation in the Cancer Walk is free, although donations are encouraged. Participants can register in advance through the Cancer Warriors Walk for Hope Facebook page or at the event’s welcome tent beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Each participant will receive a commemorative lanyard. There is no required distance or time for the walk, and participants can join at any point during the event.
The event is presented by members of Cancer Warriors Walk for Hope, a Metropolis Hope Light Project, including Massac Memorial Hospital, Deaconess Illinois Union County Hospital, Hardin County General Hospital, Rural Health Inc., Community Health & Emergency Services Inc., Southern Seven Health Department, Aetna Better Health of Illinois and the Hope Light Foundation.
Admission is free, with donations accepted to support the event and regional health care programs.
