Country music legend Dolly Parton dies at 80

TENNESSEE (KBSI) – Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.
Parton’s death was announced Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Born Jan. 19, 1946, in Tennessee, Parton became one of the most recognizable and influential artists in country music history. Her decadeslong career included hits such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.”
Parton’s career extended beyond music into film, television, business and philanthropy. She starred in movies including “9 to 5” and “Steel Magnolias” and was behind Dollywood, the theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
She also founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a literacy program that has provided books to children around the world.
Throughout her career, Parton received numerous honors, including 11 Grammy Awards, and was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Parton’s husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, died in March 2025 at the age of 82.
