Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear remembers Dolly Parton’s impact

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is remembering country music legend Dolly Parton and her impact on children across the commonwealth following her death at age 80.

Beshear called Parton an “American icon” who brought people together and spread joy.

“In Kentucky, she shared her love of reading through her Imagination Library, sparking brighter futures for thousands of children across our commonwealth,” Beshear said.

Beshear said Parton’s impact and legacy will continue for generations.

“There aren’t enough words to sum up the impact and legacy Dolly leaves behind,” Beshear said.

The governor said he and first lady Britainy Beshear are praying for Parton’s family and those mourning her death.

Parton’s Imagination Library provides free books to children from birth to age 5. The program expanded statewide in Kentucky in 2023.
