Goreville man charged with public indecency after incident at Marion Walmart

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — A Goreville man faces misdemeanor charges after police say he was seen engaging in a sexual act inside the girls’ clothing section of a Marion Walmart.

Charles E. Tolbert, 37, is charged with one count of public indecency involving lewd exposure, a Class A misdemeanor, and one count of disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor, according to Williamson County court records.

The charges stem from an Aug. 22 incident at the Walmart after police were called when a woman reported seeing a man acting suspiciously in the juvenile girls’ clothing section.

The woman recorded part of the encounter, and video from the store later circulated on social media.

A criminal complaint was filed Aug. 24, and a judge found probable cause in the case, according to court records.

Tolbert was released from custody Aug. 24 under agreed conditions of pretrial release. He was ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the Marion Walmart.

Tolbert is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Sept. 24 in Williamson County Circuit Court.
