Lawsuit alleges 6-year-old was sexually abused on Trigg County school bus

TRIGG COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A lawsuit filed against Trigg County school officials alleges a 6-year-old student was repeatedly sexually abused by an older student while riding a school bus during the 2025-26 school year.
Bryant Law Center filed the lawsuit Aug. 14 in Trigg Circuit Court on behalf of a former Trigg County Primary School student.
The lawsuit names Trigg County Public Schools Superintendent Rex Booth, Bus Garage Director Scott Schrock and school bus driver Holly Schafer as defendants. It alleges school officials failed to take appropriate action despite concerns previously raised about the child’s safety and seating arrangement on the bus.
The older student accused of the abuse is also named in the lawsuit through his parents.
According to the complaint, the child’s custodian contacted the Trigg County school bus garage with concerns about the 6-year-old being seated with significantly older students.
The lawsuit alleges transportation officials acknowledged those concerns and said the child’s seating arrangement would be changed, but that change was not maintained.
After the alleged abuse was reported May 19, Cadiz police obtained and reviewed surveillance video from the school bus, according to the lawsuit.
The complaint states the older student was subsequently charged with first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sodomy. The criminal case remains under investigation by the Cadiz Police Department.
The lawsuit alleges the child suffered significant psychological and emotional harm and requires ongoing counseling and treatment. According to the complaint, the child also withdrew from school for the remainder of the academic year.
The lawsuit seeks damages and punitive damages on behalf of the child.
The allegations have not been adjudicated, and the defendants have the right to respond to the claims in court.
The child’s identity is being withheld because of their age and the nature of the allegations.
