MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — Murray State University has been named to Money’s 2026 “Best Colleges” list, earning national recognition for its value, affordability and student outcomes.
Money evaluated more than 700 four-year colleges and universities nationwide using 25 factors across three categories: quality of education, affordability and outcomes.
Murray State offers 148 academic programs and more than 170 student organizations.
University officials said a record $140 million in financial aid and scholarships was awarded based on the university’s most recent annual reports. According to Murray State, 99% of its freshman class received financial aid or a scholarship.
“Money Magazine’s recognition of Murray State University in its 2026 ‘Best Colleges’ list highlights our combination of value, quality, and accessible pathways for students,” Murray State President Ron K. Patterson said.
Patterson said scholarships, grants and the university’s test-optional admissions policy are among the ways Murray State works to make higher education more accessible to students and their families.
The Money recognition follows several other national distinctions for Murray State over the past year.
The university has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a “Top-Tier University,” Washington Monthly as a “Best Bang for the Buck,” The Wall Street Journal as one of its “Best Colleges in the United States” and Niche among its “Best Colleges in Kentucky.”
Murray State has also been recognized as a member of the FirstGen Forward Network and received a gold-level designation as a 2026-27 Military Friendly School.
