TENNESSEE, (KBSI) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation will halt all lane-closure activity on interstates and state highways for the Labor Day Weekend travel period. Construction crews will stop all lane-closure activity beginning at noon on Friday, September 4, and ending at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8.
There may be DAYTIME or NIGHTTIME lane closures at various locations in Region 4 to make repairs or perform new installations on an as-needed basis throughout the 21 counties.
Motorists should anticipate longer intermittent closures on the eastbound U.S. 60/62 railroad overpass bridge at mile point 19.2 (near Pugh Road) in McCracken County, on Monday, Aug. 31 (weather permitting), as part of ongoing bridge repairs.
Approximately two to three closures may be needed throughout the day, with each lasting about 30 minutes.
In an effort to update aging infrastructure, the Missouri Department of Transportation plans to replace the traffic signals at the intersection of Route 25 and Route 74/A in Dutchtown, Missouri and at the intersection of U.S. Route 61 and Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
- Signal Replacement at Route 25 and Route 74/A in Dutchtown: This project includes replacing the existing span wire traffic signals with modern traffic signals (mast arms and signal heads) to improve reliability and better align with current design practices. During MoDOT’s review of this area, additional improvements were identified including extending the northbound right‑turn lane on Route 25 and providing dedicated through and left‑turn lanes for both eastbound and westbound Route 74 traffic.
- Tentatively, the project is anticipated to be let in FY 2030. As work is underway, motorists should anticipate staged construction with short, intermittent closures. Construction will be underway for approximately six months.
- Signal Replacement at U.S. 61 and Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau: This project includes replacing the existing traffic signals with updated signals and improving the intersection. The additional intersection improvements include widening to add an island for right-turn movements at the southwest quadrant of the intersection. It also includes modifying the median on U.S. 61 to provide a slightly longer left-turn deceleration lane and more storage for the U.S. 61 southbound left-turn lane.
- Tentatively, the project will be let in March 2027, with construction beginning as early as May 2027. As work is underway, motorists should anticipate lane closures; flaggers and work zone signage will guide drivers through the work zone. Construction will be underway for approximately three months, weather permitting.
