Carbondale man arrested after reports of gunfire, police say

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 19-year-old Carbondale man was arrested after police responded to multiple reports of gunfire Saturday afternoon.

Carbondale police officers were called to the 500 block of South Forest Avenue around 3:54 p.m. Aug. 29 after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired.

Police said the person or people involved had left the area before officers arrived. No injuries were reported, but officers found damage to a home.

During the investigation, officers found a man in the area who matched witnesses’ descriptions of a suspect, according to police.

Police said the man ran from officers before he was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. Officers also recovered a firearm.

Police identified the man as Lalyn Frais, 19, of Carbondale.

Frais is charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting a peace officer. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail, where police said he remained pending a detention hearing.

Police did not say whether Frais is accused of firing the shots or causing the damage to the home.

The investigation remains ongoing.
