Extreme Heat Continues into Labor Day Weekend
Dangerous heat and humidity will continue through the rest of the week and into the weekend. An Extreme Heat Warning is in place through Saturday evening, September 5, with heat indices up to 110 degrees possible.
Not much of note on the latest run of StormCast for Thursday and Friday. This run picks up on the chance for a brief shower in the afternoon, though most will stay dry through the end of the week.
Another factor to consider with extreme afternoon high temperatures will be the warm conditions overnight. Temperatures will range from the lower to upper 70s for the start of the day Thursday.
Even with clear skies this evening, Cape Girardeau will see overnight lows above 70 degrees.
Highs on Thursday will be 10 to 15 degrees above average across the viewing area. Temperatures are forecast to reach the middle to upper 90s, with an occasional 100-degree mark or two.
Expect little relief from cloud cover or much of a breeze in Cape on Thursday. Highs are expected to reach the upper 90s, which will impact any outdoor afternoon and evening plans.
Hot temperatures combined with the higher humidity will push the feels-like temperatures above the triple digits in the Heartland.
We will have a couple of chances for new record highs in the coming days as forecast highs remain in the middle and upper 90s. Very isolated chances for showers and thunderstorms arrive for Labor Day weekend, though impacts to any holiday plans will be minimal. Forecast highs are expected to remain in the lower 90s following the holiday.
