Murphysboro woman dies after being struck by vehicle in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 68-year-old Murphysboro woman died after she was struck by a vehicle in Carbondale on Tuesday evening.

Carbondale police responded to the intersection of South University Avenue and West Cherry Street around 5:48 p.m. Officers found the pedestrian, identified as Nancy A. Morrison-Burton, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

A bystander with medical training was performing lifesaving measures when officers arrived. Carbondale firefighters and Jackson County Ambulance personnel continued treatment before Morrison-Burton was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Police said the driver and vehicle involved remained at the scene. Illinois State Police are assisting with the crash reconstruction.
