American Airlines launches service between Marion and Chicago

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — American Airlines officially began service Wednesday at Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois, offering a new flight schedule between Marion and Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

The first American Airlines flight into Marion was scheduled to leave Chicago at 1:10 p.m. and arrive at Veterans Airport at 2:40 p.m. The aircraft was scheduled to depart Marion at 3:24 p.m., but maintenance issues delayed the flight until 6:32 p.m.

Under the airline’s September schedule, a morning flight will leave Marion daily at 5:42 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 7:30 a.m. An evening flight will depart O’Hare at 10:15 p.m. and arrive in Marion at 11:42 p.m.

A second round-trip flight will be available on select days. That flight is scheduled to leave Marion at 3:24 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 5:07 p.m.

On most of those days, the incoming flight will depart O’Hare at 1:10 p.m. and arrive in Marion at 2:40 p.m. On certain Mondays and Fridays in September, it will leave Chicago at 12:59 p.m. and arrive in Marion at 2:29 p.m.

American Airlines is scheduled to offer 12 round-trip flights each week through the Essential Air Service program. Flight times and ticket prices vary by travel date.
