MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – A local fundraiser is helping to put more books into the hands of young children, and their doing it in honor of Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton’s love of literacy is making its way to Southern Illinois and community organizations are gearing up to celebrate 9 to 5 Dolly Day, with local events in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Shelley Hudspath is the Marion Carnegie Library Director; she shares Southern Illinois Dolly Day aims to honor the life values and legacy of Dolly Parton. The event will run 9 to 5 and focus on dolly’s core values-service to others, philanthropy and generosity, kindness and compassion and the importance of early literacy.

“Were celebrating dolly day on September 25th, 9 to 5 here in the library. We’ve got a lot of activities and games, and we’ll give you a sticker if you come in with a little dolly flair! “At the end of the day, over at the civic center at 7 p.m., They’re doing a stage reading of Steel Magnolias, which I get chills just talking about it” says Hudspath. “And so that’s totally free! “We just ask that people make a donation to the dolly parton imagination library.

Multiple organizations will be participating including Glaciers End. Libby Ervin is the Co-Owner of Glaciers End- a farm to table business that has everything from locally grown syrups and pickles to hot sauces and specialty drinks and much more.

Ervin says the business focuses on supporting local, growing local, and feeding local and that’s one of the reasons why they chose to participate in dolly day.

“We’re super excited, we’re big, big Dolly Parton fans” says Ervin. “We’re always up for any type of collaboration around the square and  downtown, for the community. So, we will probably have some type of themed, cocktail mocktail drink. Something pretty, something pink, something fun and we may try to do a special sirup or shrub or something as one of our products as well.”

Marion Carnegie Library Director Shelley Hudspath shares more about Dolly Partons Imagination Library.

“Dolly Parton Imagination Library is an exceptional program that provides free books to children until the age of five. They walk away from that program with, just a whole collection of books and, it really promotes literacy and reading here in our community. We have a lot of kids who are signed up, but we can even sign more kids up that day. We’re happy to do that” says Hudspath.
