Johnston City firefighters carry flag honoring fallen 9/11 firefighter

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill., (KBSI) — The Johnston City Fire Department carried a special American flag during its 9/11 memorial walk Thursday in honor of New York City firefighter Michael Cawley.

Cawley was 32 when he was killed at the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The True Patriots Care organization dedicated the flag to Cawley. It was given to the Burton family by Johnston City Fire Chief Burton’s sister.

The department said it was proud to carry the flag and honor Cawley’s life and sacrifice.
