Coast Guard members share rescue, river missions with Charleston students

CHARLESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — U.S. Coast Guard recruiters visited Charleston High School’s JAG classes to speak with students about careers in the military branch.

Marine Science Technician 1st Class Vince Hostoffer and Marine Science Technician 2nd Class Jackson Coates discussed the risks and benefits of Coast Guard service. They also shared experiences involving rescue missions, narcotics investigations and work along the nation’s rivers and waterways.

Both recruiters are serving four-year terms in Paducah, Kentucky.

Students also had an opportunity to participate in an endurance challenge brought by the recruiters.

JAG Specialist Kyle Johnson thanked Hostoffer and Coates for speaking with the students.
