First responders honor 9/11 victims during Saluki Memorial Stair Climb

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Firefighters and community members climbed 110 flights of stairs Thursday during the Saluki 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, honoring those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Murphysboro Fire Chief McBride and firefighter Morber participated alongside firefighters from across the region, including McBride’s daughter, Connor, who serves with the Carbondale Fire Department.

Members of the military, law enforcement agencies, emergency medical services, local businesses and the public also took part in the climb.

Participants climbed 110 flights to represent the number of floors in each of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers and ensure the victims and first responders are never forgotten.
