National Quilt Museum opens new exhibition exploring color and texture

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — A new exhibition opening at the National Quilt Museum will showcase how contemporary artists use paint, dye and thread to transform fabric.

“Pigment, Dye & Thread” opens Friday, Sept. 18, and runs through March 2, 2027. The exhibition features 19 works from the museum’s permanent collection.

The pieces demonstrate techniques including fabric painting, hand-dyeing, dense stitching and thread painting. Featured artists include Katie Pasquini Masopust, Colleen Wise, Libby Lehman, Sue Benner, Hollis Chatelain and Yvonne Porcella.

“Seeing these pieces together demonstrates just how much experimentation and individual expression are possible within contemporary quiltmaking,” museum curator Rachael Baar said.

The National Quilt Museum is located at 215 Jefferson St. in downtown Paducah. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and military members, and $5 for students. Children younger than 12 receive free admission with a paying adult.
