CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A juvenile suspected in several shootings and vehicle thefts was arrested Friday morning, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Officers responded around 10:40 a.m. to a home in the 400 block of South Pacific Street after receiving information that the juvenile was inside.

Police said officers found the juvenile sleeping on a couch and took the suspect into custody.

The juvenile had a backpack containing a semiautomatic handgun with a loaded extended magazine, according to police. Officers also recovered evidence they believe is connected to a previous stolen-vehicle investigation.

Investigators identified the juvenile as a suspect in several shots-fired cases and multiple stolen-vehicle investigations.

The juvenile was turned over to juvenile authorities. Police did not release identifying information because of the suspect’s age.

Southeast Missouri State University police and the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrest.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information may call Cape Girardeau police at 573-335-6621 or submit an anonymous tip at 573-339-6313. Tips may also be submitted by texting “CAPEPD” to 847411.
