Southeast Missouri State University welcomes families to campus for Family Weekend 2026

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University will welcome students’ families to campus Sept. 25-26 for its annual Family Weekend.
The two-day event will feature activities across campus and Cape Girardeau, including Pops in the Park with the SEMO Symphony Orchestra, stargazing at the Vollink Observatory and tours of the Academic Hall Dome.
Other activities include a Day on the River hosted by the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center at Riverfront Park and a Family Weekend Fair featuring a petting zoo, ax throwing and snacks. A family picnic with SEMO President Brad Hodson and his wife is also planned.
“Family Weekend is an opportunity for our college students to invite their families to campus and share their SEMO experience,” said Michele Irby, SEMO’s director of Campus Life. “We hope our students walk their families around campus, show them their favorite places in Cape Girardeau and participate in a variety of events and activities to engage in our SEMO community.”
Family Weekend will conclude Saturday with the Redhawks taking on the University of West Florida at Houck Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Redhawk Walk will begin two hours before kickoff. The SEMO Marching Band, cheerleaders and Sundancers will lead the football team toward Houck Field as fans gather along Smallwood-Williams Way.
