Chaffee man charged following sex offender registration investigation

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A Chaffee man has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged failure to comply with Missouri’s sex offender registration requirements.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said Douglas E. Hinkle was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 22.

According to the sheriff’s office, Hinkle registered June 30 and was instructed to return Sept. 15. Investigators said he reported to the office Sept. 22, seven days after the required date.

During an interview, Hinkle acknowledged knowing when he was required to return and told investigators he did not have transportation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hinkle was taken into custody and booked into the Scott County Jail. The sheriff’s office said he was formally charged Wednesday, and his bond was set at $50,000.

The charge is an accusation. Hinkle is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
