Driver cited after crashing into McCracken County school bus

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A driver was cited after authorities say his vehicle crashed into the back of a school bus as children were getting off Tuesday afternoon.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:40 p.m. Sept. 23 to the 3300 block of Olivet Church Road near Pace Drive.
Deputies said a passenger car driven by 48-year-old Leroy Smith of Kevil struck the back of a McCracken County Public Schools bus that had stopped to let children off.
According to the sheriff’s office, the bus had its stop arm, stop sign and flashing red lights activated at the time of the crash.
Twenty-seven children were on the bus. Authorities reported one minor, non-incapacitating injury.
Smith was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. Deputies cited him for reckless driving.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by McCracken County Public Schools, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, Concord Fire Department and Bailey’s Towing.
