Paducah asks families to remove unapproved decorations from Oak Grove Cemetery

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Paducah officials are asking families to remove unapproved or deteriorating decorations from Oak Grove Cemetery before a maintenance and cleaning audit begins Oct. 5.

The Paducah Parks & Recreation Department periodically reviews the city-owned cemetery at 1613 Park Ave. to identify maintenance needs and remove decorations that are weathered, out of season or do not comply with cemetery guidelines.

Approved decorations include fresh or artificial flowers in permanently mounted, cemetery-approved vases; hanging baskets or solar lanterns on single-hook shepherd’s hooks; and monument benches installed by a monument company.

Items including toys, ornaments, borders, plantings, stones, gravel, mulch, candles, unsecured benches and fragile items such as glass are not permitted at burial plots.

“We understand that flowers and decorations are a meaningful way for visitors to honor and remember their loved ones,” Parks & Recreation Director Amie Clark said. “We encourage visitors to pick up personal décor that they wish to keep before the seasonal cleanup process begins.”
