Calloway County Jail launches program to help people reenter community

MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — The Calloway County Jail has launched a new program aimed at providing basic necessities and community resources to people leaving incarceration.
The “Packing with a Purpose” program provides backpacks filled with essential items to people who meet certain eligibility criteria as they are released from the jail.
Jail officials said some people leave the facility with few personal belongings or limited access to basic necessities.
The program is intended to address immediate needs while also connecting participants with resources that could help during their transition back into the community.
The jail is asking for community donations to help stock the backpacks. Individual items and bulk supplies can be purchased through online wish lists provided by the jail.
Officials said the program is designed to support successful reentry while promoting personal responsibility and connecting participants with available community resources.
