Cape Girardeau Zonta Club announces honorees for 50th anniversary celebration

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau will recognize local women and celebrate its 50th anniversary during an awards event Friday, Nov. 13, at the Drury Plaza Conference Center.
Brittney Swicionis will receive the club’s inaugural Young Woman of Achievement Award, and Andrea Sachse will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Five women are nominated for the Woman of Achievement Award: Brandy McIntire, Brook Venable, Darah Jirkovsky, Judy Cantoni and Raelenna Ferguson. The winner will be announced during the celebration.
The new Young Woman of Achievement Award recognizes a woman 35 or younger for leadership, professional accomplishments, community involvement and efforts to empower others.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes lasting contributions through service, while the Woman of Achievement Award honors leadership, professional excellence and community service.
The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and a community expo featuring sponsor booths, games and giveaways. Dinner will follow at 6 p.m., with the awards presentation afterward.
Live music by Gen X is scheduled to begin about 8 p.m.
“This golden anniversary gives us an opportunity to celebrate the women who have helped shape our community and the women who are continuing that legacy today,” said Jan Ruopp, a longtime club member and event co-chair.
Chartered in 1976, the club supports women and girls through scholarships, advocacy, education, service and philanthropy. Its anniversary year runs through May 31, 2027.
