Police say all suspects in custody in deadly downtown Cape Girardeau shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Investigators believe all suspects connected to Sunday’s downtown shooting that killed a Parma teenager and injured three adults are in custody, Cape Girardeau police said Wednesday.

No further arrests are anticipated at this time, police said in a Sept. 30 update.

The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad has concluded its involvement. Cape Girardeau police will handle any further investigation.

Quazerious Murray, 21, of Cape Girardeau, is in custody and faces one count of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault and four counts of armed criminal action.

The shooting killed 17-year-old Keyon Malcom, of Parma, and injured three others.

Officers patrolling downtown heard multiple gunshots shortly after 2 a.m. Sept. 27 in the first block of North Main Street. They found Malcom and an adult with gunshot wounds and provided medical care until emergency crews arrived.

Malcom was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead. The adult was taken to a hospital by a third party. Hospital staff later notified police that two additional adults had arrived with gunshot wounds.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses, identifying Murray as the suspected shooter, police said.

Circuit Judge Julia M. Koester signed an arrest warrant Sept. 29 setting bond at $1 million.
