Paducah bulk item collection returns this fall

FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Paducah’s Public Works Department is bringing back its Household Bulk Item Collection Program this fall, allowing eligible residential households to dispose of up to three large household items at no additional cost.

No registration or appointment is required.

Collection weeks are assigned based on residents’ regular garbage pickup days:

– Tuesday routes: Week of Oct. 26.

– Wednesday routes: Week of Nov. 2.

– Thursday routes: Week of Nov. 9.

– Friday routes: Week of Nov. 16.

Residents should place items at the curb by Sunday evening before their assigned week. Crews may begin collecting items Monday.

Accepted items include furniture, mattresses, couches and qualifying large appliances. Refrigerators and air conditioners must have a visible tag certifying they are free of coolant.

Each household is limited to three items. A mattress and box spring together count as one item. Items must be placed at the curb or roadside, rather than in alleys, on sidewalks or behind fences. Prohibited materials and piles exceeding the three-item limit will not be collected.

The program returns after a March pilot received positive feedback, according to Public Works Director Chris Yarber. Of 473 survey respondents, 97% reported being satisfied or very satisfied with the collection process, and 99% said they were likely or very likely to use the service again.

More information, including the collection calendar, is available on the city’s Bulk Items webpage.
