SIU students revive River Region News nearly six years after pandemic hiatus

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Southern Illinois University Carbondale students are reviving River Region News in a digital-first format nearly six years after the student-produced newscast went quiet during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students are reporting across southern Illinois and producing a weekly newscast for Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, according to the university.

The program also provides opportunities in sports broadcasting, digital storytelling and live coverage.

For decades, River Region News gave SIU students broadcast journalism experience.
