CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University will continue hosting Missouri’s high school volleyball championships at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau through 2031.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association has selected the Show Me Center to host the girls’ volleyball state championships from 2028 through 2030 and the boys’ volleyball state championships from 2029 through 2031.
The Show Me Center previously hosted the girl’s championships from 2011 to 2024 and currently hosts the boys’ championships.
According to SEMO, the four-day girls tournament brings teams from 20 schools and approximately 400 participants to Cape Girardeau. The two-day boys’ tournament draws about 160 participants.
University officials say the events also provide an economic boost to the community, with visiting athletes, coaches and families staying in local hotels and visiting area restaurants and businesses.
“We believe these championships provide tremendous value to Southeast Missouri State University, the City of Cape Girardeau and the local business community,” said Becky Vetter, executive director of the Show Me Center. “Participants, coaches, families and supporters occupy local hotels and frequent area restaurants and businesses throughout the championship events.”
Vetter said hosting the championships also provides an opportunity to recognize the achievements of high school student-athletes.
“We understand the importance of celebrating student-athletes and recognizing the dedication, perseverance and achievements that have brought them to the state championships,” Vetter said.
University officials say the championships will continue bringing visitors to Cape Girardeau while showcasing SEMO and the Show Me Center as destinations for major statewide events.
