Kennett Fire Department reminds residents burn ban remains in effect

KENNETT, Mo. (KBSI) — The Kennett Fire Department is reminding residents that a burn ban remains in effect due to continued dry conditions and an elevated risk of wildfires.

According to fire officials, low relative humidity and dry vegetation have created conditions that allow grass and brush fires to ignite and spread rapidly.

The department is urging residents to avoid all open burning, including burning yard waste, building bonfires and using open flames.

Fire officials are also reminding drivers to avoid parking vehicles on dry grass because hot exhaust systems can ignite vegetation.

Residents are encouraged to properly extinguish cigarettes and dispose of smoking materials in approved, noncombustible containers.

Fire Chief Davis acknowledged that the ongoing restrictions may inconvenience residents but emphasized that protecting the community remains the department’s priority.

The fire department thanked residents for their cooperation and encouraged everyone to take precautions to prevent fires while dry conditions persist.
