ILLINOIS (KBSI) – Democrat Juliana Stratton celebrated her victory in Illinois’ U.S. Senate race Tuesday, Nov. 3, sharing a message of gratitude with voters.

Stratton, Illinois’ lieutenant governor, defeated Republican Don Tracy in the race to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, according to The Associated Press.

“Illinois, we just made history,” Stratton wrote in a social media post following the election.

Stratton reflected on the significance of her victory and the importance of representation in the U.S. Senate.

“Words can’t express how honored I am to follow in the footsteps of these three former U.S. Senators from Illinois,” Stratton wrote.

She also thanked voters for helping bring greater representation to Congress.

“I often say there’s not a lot of voices like mine in the U.S. Senate, but there should be. Thanks to you, we’re changing that,” Stratton wrote.

Election results remain unofficial until certified by state election officials.
