LYON COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — Drivers traveling on Interstate 24 westbound in Lyon County will encounter a new traffic pattern beginning Thursday, Nov. 5, as part of an ongoing road improvement project.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, traffic has shifted onto both westbound lanes between mile markers 45.1 and 50 following the completion of asphalt resurfacing.
Eastbound traffic will remain restricted to one lane until crews remove a temporary barrier wall, which is expected to be completed by the end of November.
A reduced speed limit of 55 mph remains in effect through the work zone.
The changes are part of a larger 10-mile asphalt rehabilitation project stretching from mile marker 45.1 in Lyon County to mile marker 55.4 near Exit 56 in Caldwell County.
Lane restrictions will continue over the next several weeks near Exit 45 at Kentucky 293 as crews remove a median crossover.
Additional restrictions will remain near Exit 56 at Kentucky 139, where construction has begun on a crossover for the second phase of the project.
The second phase, which will involve shifting traffic onto the new crossover, is expected to begin in spring 2027.
The entire project is scheduled for completion by Nov. 15, 2027.
Drivers are urged to use caution and watch for changing traffic patterns in the work zone.
