Spaghetti Day fundraiser supports Cape Girardeau Parks Foundation programs

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO.(KBSI) Good food and community support came together Thursday, November 5, 2026 as the Cape Girardeau Parks Foundation hosted its 21st annual Spaghetti Day fundraiser.
The event, held at the AC Brace Arena building, brings community members, corporate sponsors and local businesses together to raise money for programs and projects supported by the Parks Foundation.
Organizers say the fundraiser helps provide opportunities that might not otherwise be available, particularly for children and families in the community.
“It’s important for us to have a successful event so that we’re able to support many extra programs,” said Mark Lanzotti, a member of the Parks Foundation’s executive committee. “These are programs that wouldn’t otherwise happen.”
Lanzotti said the foundation helps give students the opportunity to participate in Cape Park Leagues and supports other community projects.
He also said the foundation is preparing to share more information about plans for the city’s sand volleyball court near Cape Splash, including the possibility of relocating or improving the facility.
Aquatic Facilities Supervisor Robert Shanahan said the annual fundraiser has become an important tradition for the organization.
“We’re just really excited to be in our 21st year supporting our Parks and Rec Foundation and enjoying community support,” Shanahan said.
Organizers say the event’s continued success depends on community participation and the support of local sponsors.
Lanzotti said events like Spaghetti Day help make additional recreational opportunities and community projects possible.
The fundraiser continues to serve as an opportunity for residents to support Cape Girardeau parks and recreation while enjoying a meal with their community.
Community members have the chance to come together over a spaghetti dinner complete with a drink and dessert from 11-7 pm both dine in and carryout options are available.
