$1.52 million renovation project to begin on S Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A $1.52 million renovation project on South Sprigg Street is set to begin in early March, the city announced.
The project, funded through the city’s Transportation Trust Fund program, will include removing and replacing curbs, gutters and sidewalks, as well as replacing deteriorated concrete street panels and completing mill and overlay work.
A 104-year-old water main will also be replaced, along with necessary sewer repairs, to reduce the likelihood of pavement cuts for utility repairs in the coming years.
The project is expected to take about 10 months to complete, depending on weather and other factors.
Residents along South Sprigg Street will be notified before any work affecting their driveway access begins.
The city urges motorists to exercise caution around workers and to be patient with the project, which is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve its roadways.
The Transportation Trust Fund program, which is funded by a half-cent sales tax, has been used to support street renovation and related work in Cape Girardeau for nearly 30 years. The current tax is set to expire Dec. 31, 2025.
