1 arrested after shots fired in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces weapons charges after shots were fired in Carbondale Tuesday night.

Shomari D. Lipscomb, 26, of Carbondale faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a firearm owners identification card.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 500 block of South Graham Street for a report of shots fired at 9:23 p.m. on August 20.

Officers learned the driver of a red vehicle in the road exchanged gunfire with a man standing in front of a home.

The shooter in the vehicle was last seen traveling west on East Mill Street. There is not a description of the driver available. The vehicle is described as red with black wheels.

Officers identified the suspect who fired from the front of the home as Lipscomb. Officers found Lipscomb and arrested him.

A firearm and other evidence were collected.

Lipscomb was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

No injuries were reported. However, there was property damage as a result of bullet strikes.

The person who shot from the vehicle has not yet been identified. Police say there are indications that the shooting is related to a personal dispute between known acquaintances.
