1 dead, 1 injured after rollover crash in rural Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – One person died after a crash in rural Carbondale Thursday afternoon.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle traffic crash on Old Highway 13 near Wood Road in rural Carbondale around 1:51 p.m. on Thursday, February 15.
One vehicle rolled over and the people inside were trapped.
A black 2020 Alfa Romeo driven by Joe Love, 34, of Murphysboro was westbound on Old Highway 13 just east of Wood Road. At the same time, a white 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Barbara Perkins, 45, of Carbondale, was leaving a private drive.
The Toyota pulled out and into the path of the Alfa Romeo, according to Sgt. Ronald Stanton with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Alfa Romeo struck the Corolla, lost control, hit a utility pole and overturned.
EMS removed Love and a passenger, Robert Sanders, 45, of Carbondale from the vehicle.
All three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Barbara Perkins was treated and later released.
Robert Sanders was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Joe Love later died from his injuries.
Members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.
The Jackson County Ambulance Service, Carbondale Township Fire Department and Jackson County Coroner’s Office assisted on the call.
The road was closed for approximately 3-and-a-half hours.
